Goodbye Post-Wash Hair Frizz & Shrinkage! 5 Tips to Help You Out from Sinavirginhair

As naturals, we know how tasking some of the techniques and treatments can be; like the post-wash frizz and shrinkage. But alas it doesn’t have to be a ‘necessary evil’.

To help out my fellow naturals sisters out there, here are some of my favourite wash day tips for reducing shrinkage and help keep frizz to a minimum.

1. Washing in sections/Washing in twisted sections

For women with longer natural hair, this one would have to be a big YES from me! I usually wash my hair in 4 even sections separated with hair crabs or in 4-6 big twists. Washing the hair in sections makes it easier to manage, ensuring that all sections of the hair are adequately washed. This is while twisting each section post-wash, conditioning and detangling prevents the hair from re-tangling with itself and other sections of hair.

Leaving the hair to dry in those twisted sections is also highly recommended – it may take a little longer for the hair to dry but it will definitely reduce overall shrinkage.

2. Detangling with conditioner and a denman brush/wide-toothed comb

An obvious contributor to frizz would be combing or brushing the hair while it is dry. Needless to say it is one of the bigger causes of breakage and split ends.

In order to reduce frizz, it is advised that you detangle each section of hair while completely saturated with conditioner – starting from the tips and working upwards to the root. Denman brushes are notorious for being great natural hair detangling tools as their soft evenly spaced bristles allow for easy detangling while the rubber base simultaneously smooths the hair and reduces frizz. These can be found in most beauty supply stores but if not a blunt wide toothed shower comb should do the trick just as well.

3. Rinsing with lukewarm water

9 times out of 10, the hair’s level of frizziness will correlate with its level of dryness. Scientifically, heat has been known to essentially “burn out” moisture. Try placing a pot with a little amount of water in it on the stove; after enough time has passed, you will see the water completely disappear. This is exactly the same thing that happens when we apply enough direct heat to our hair; the direct heat from the hot water will dry out the moisture within the hair. When hair is dry, it not only appears frizzier but it is more brittle and prone to breakage.

However, heat is not all bad. It is known to open up the hair cuticles – allowing hair treatments, conditioners oils and products to deeply penetrate the hair shaft – hence the term “deep treatment”. Naturally, cooler temperatures are known to do the opposite – close the hair cuticles; locking in the moisture and treatment infused into the hair during the aforementioned heat infused procedures. It is for this reason that rinsing the hair with cooler water following a conditioning treatment is highly recommended. Not only will it keep the hair from getting dry and looking frizzy but it will also ensure all that nourishing goodness stays locked up in your hair!

4. Absorbing excess water with an old cotton t-shirt and/or air dry your hair

I know I’m not the only one who thought I looked fabulous in a bath robe with a towel on my head to dry my hair. Sadly, I had to give up on that look when I realized it was making my hair frizzy. Ever wondered why as Black women, we’ve always had to wear a silk/satin scarf, bonnet or some other form of cranial contraption on our heads while we sleep? Well here’s the deal; similar to excessive direct heat, and as you may already know, cotton is very good at soaking up moisture. In anything and everything – your hair included. Being that this is the stuff that most pillowcases and made from, it only makes sense that in order to keep our hair from getting excessively dry, that we cover our hair to protect it from the moisture-sapping cotton pillowcases as we twist and turn through the night. The same goes for towels; they soak up a lot of the hair’s moisture, causing dryness and, you guessed it…frizz!

A good alternative would be to allow the hair to air-dry. A great tip I like to use is to soak up all the excess dripping water with a cotton t-shirt. It takes no time because cotton is a quick absorbent and because I don’t leave it on I do not run the risk of dryness. Following this I just allow the hair to air-dry until it’s completely dry before unraveling the twists and…Voila! The zero effort twist-out is born!

5. Applying a water-based gel to damp hair

For all my on-the-go naturalistas, this one’s for you. I appreciate that we do not all have the time to sit around and wait for our hair to dry before we get about our daily business. Furthermore, the thought of what our hair may look like in public after it has dried throughout the course of the day is enough to discourage air drying on the move, but this tip could almost guarantee you won’t have to worry about such things as you go about your daily business.

Cue the ‘Wash ‘n’ Go’! Following a good wash, if you need to leave the house with minimal time for styling, simply grab your favourite tub of hair gel and work through each section of your hair while damp with some of the gel. Remember to balance the amount of gel you use with the sections of hair you are working with.

Rake the gel through your hair with your fingers in a downward smoothing motion until it is completely saturated with the gel. This will significantly reduce or possibly eliminate frizz as the hair dries and simultaneously enhance the natural curls and coils in your hair!

Be sure to use a water-based gel; check the back of the product to ensure ‘water’ is listed. These gels are far less likely to dry out your hair or give your hair that dreaded crunchy when it is dry.

5 Tips on Making your Weaves look Natural-Sina virgin hair weaves

For those of us who wear extensions, one of the issues we sometimes face is getting the weave to blend with our natural hair, especially when we want to leave our natural hair out.

In as much as it is a weave it shouldn’t be that obvious; especially when it comes to going to work and attending to customers, taking photos for Instagram or attending events.

Today, we are going to highlight 5 aspects that you should consider if you want to get that flawless look with your weaves and get more natural looking extensions.

1. Great quality hair

The quality of hair extensions you choose will determine how natural they look. Synthetic hair extensions will definitely look less natural than hair extension made with human hair.

There are so many grades and types of human hair extensions out there, so it is important that you select carefully. If you would like to use human hair and think it is too expensive to buy at once, you can invest towards it and buy it later. It lasts longer and you can use and re-use it.

For artificial hair it is very difficult or rather impossible to blend it with your natural hair even though there are many people who still use artificial hair. Because it has a different texture it may be better not to leave your natural hair out.

Here Sina Virgin Hair Weave has it's good quality and reasonable price, deeply loved by the masses of customers.

2. Blending colours well

A lot of ladies would love to use various hair colours for their hair extensions. However, they often forget that their natural hair colour would not match the hair extension.

If you are uncomfortable with dyeing your hair to match the hair extensions, it is better to stick with extensions that are close to your natural hair colour.

A great way to incorporate hair colour is to use ombre hair that has your natural hair colour. For example if you have jet black hair, your weave could have colours that include black and then brightens to brunette, mahogany or a colour with a dark base.

3. Length of the hair extensions

We can’ t count how many ladies we see with hair lengths that are not proportionate to their body size. It almost seems as if the longer your weave, the more fabulous you seem. That is not the case!

You need to remember that when choosing hair length, you have to consider your body structure, size and shape.

We often commit the crime of choosing a length that is way too long for our frame or too short as the case may be. We need to consider the length of our natural hair too (yes, sometimes that is a problem) so your hair doesn’t look misplaced when your hair is all done.

4. The hair texture

When trying to achieve a more natural look, you must consider the natural texture i.e the curl and pattern of the hair extensions.

If you are going for a more Bohemian look and wish to use hair extensions with tight curls, it is important to curl your hair as well to blend with the extensions. If you leave you hair out without curling it, you would end up with 2 different hair textures.

The same applies in the reverse – if you are natural and your hair has a certain curl pattern, get a wig or weave that would blend with your natural hair’s texture.

5. Volume

When trying to achieve a natural looking weave, it is important that you make sure your hair isn’t too voluminous. When your hair is too full, it looks too good to be true therefore artificial.

Overly full hair is also quite difficult to maintain, so it is better to go with volume that you are comfortable with and can handle for ease and perfection.

Basics for Hair Cleansing

Do you have some unanswered questions about shampooing? Then you'll certainly find some useful ideas here that might clarify some things about the basic hair care. Following some well-defined principles is essential to offer the proper nourishment to your strands and scalp. Look through these issues, you might have wondered whether you knew the right answer for them.

Some might not be interested in any hair styling tips, however the basic cleansing is on the daily or at least weekly schedule of everyone. There are several methods to keep our hair in good shape. Using a high quality shampoo in the textbook way can boost the natural and healthy glow of our strands.

That's why it is essential to get familiar with the know how of hair detox. Our hair requires special care to create the desired effect and dress up our look. Find out more on hair cleansing basics through these professional tips.

Scalp Massage While Shampooing

Numerous professionals demonstrated the beneficial effect of scalp massage. You might be in need of longer locks, then this is also a remedy for your problem. Massaging your head with a circular movement will boost the blood circulation in the scalp and the hair growth will quicken and the new follicles will become healthier.

The secret to shiny hair is indeed to use your fingertips rather than nails. Be careful don't cause any long-term damages to your hair.

Do this for at least 5 minutes each time you wash your hair, make sure that the shampoo stays on your hair to ease the massaging process.

It is also extremely important to wash off the shampoo after massaging cause leaving it on for a longer period might cause some undesirable consequences.

Don't let yourself guided by misconception according to which the longer you have the shampoo on your hair the better it is. There's no reason to give time to the product to have its effect, it's main function in fact is cleansing.

When is the Hair Really Clean?

Many people think that when you feel the sleek and fine texture of the hair than it clean. Wrong! This fact only means that the oil and the dirt is removed from the surface. However the thorough cleaning is not done.

Hair care specialists also claim that this sign might also indicate raised cuticles which may trick us. The best way to secure the proper cleansing is to go on with rinsing till the recommended period.

Hair Rinsing After Shampoo

You might think that rinsing the hair after shampooing it's the easiest part of the hair care ritual. The truth is that this is one of the top essential steps of the whole process. The proper elimination of the shampoo and other chemicals must be done in a flawless way to offer the right treatment to our hair.

Moreover a thorough rinsing is also vital that should last for 60-90 seconds depending on the texture of the hair. Those who have thicker and more brittle hair should take extra-care of washing off the chemicals of their tresses. The best way to succeed is to direct the flowing water in the direction of the follicles. This way the water will be able to penetrate into the depth of the hair.

The Right Temperature of Water

Keep away of exposing your hair to hot showers. It might seem soothing for your body still there's no reason to torture the cuticles with this. Lukewarm water and even cold one will do the best for your strands. Especially of your hair is prone to become oily.

The hot shower will only boost the oil which can generate the greasy effect. If you don't want to have lifeless and worn-out tresses a few hours after the cleansing you might think of rinsing your hair with cold water. This will efficiently close the cuticles preventing the penetration of any harmful toxins.

Style Damp Locks-Hairstyles for Wet Hair

Sleek and damp hairstyles are very trendy, and they might be the right way to gain a few more style points, whether you’re going out, to work or enjoying some quality time by the pool or on a beach.

Check out a few of the best hairstyles for wet hair, that will look good on both damp hair and once your tresses are dry. Pick your favorite and try these simple hairdos that look a lot more complex than they really are.

Fishtail Braid

The best braid for damp hair, a fishtail braid can look good whether you’re only wearing a bikini or you’re dressing up. For shorter hair, braid a fishtail where they meet in the middle. If you want a more refined look for longer hair, pull your hair to one side, tie into a ponytail, and secure with an elastic band before braiding.

After dividing your hair into two sections, start taking strands from behind each section, crossing them, and combining them with the other section. Repeat until you’ve got one of the best hairstyles for wet hair, that certainly benefits from the added texture.

French Braided Bun

Another cool look for wet or damp hair, the French braided bun is definitely the right choice if you’re looking for something a bit messy. Start a French braid on one side, then continue with a regular braid. Once you’re done, twist into a messy bun, leaving only the French braid part untouched.

Fringe Topknot

If a high bun or a topknot is too simple for the wow factor you’re looking for, the fringe topknot is definitely one of the best hairstyles for wet hair you should try. Start by pulling your wet hair into a very high ponytail, 2 inches from your hairline. Roll the ponytail into a tight twist, secure with another elastic and leave the ends hanging on one side for a cool fringe effect.

Half Bun, Half Ponytail

When you’re looking for more messy and less defined hairstyles for wet hair, the combination of a bun and ponytail is perfect for the beach or for securing your hair after a few laps in the pool. Start by pulling your hair into a ponytail where you’d like the bun to be, then twist and secure just part of your strands in a bun as you’d normally do, giving the other strands more freedom. Go for a cute flip-under effect if you’re looking for a casual, yet still stylish look.

French Twist with a Scarf

The French twist is a classic, but adding a floral scarf to your look lets you sport one of the coolest trends of the season. It’s a great way to secure your long damp hair in a stylish way. Start with the strands at the nape of your neck, twisting them up and tucking in more hair into the twist. Even if you’re wearing a trendy floral scarf, secure your hair with bobby pins to make sure it stays in place.

Infinity Bun

If you’re looking for a bun you can wear to the office, the infinity bun is definitely a more sophisticated spin on the low bun and one of the more elegant hairstyles for wet hair. In order to keep it looking younger, you should also try some hair gel in order to define your strands after creating an off center part and running a wide-tooth comb through your tresses. Secure your hair into a ponytail at the nape, then twist the strands loosely. Use a finger to hook the twist and create a shape that resembles the figure 8, or a vertical infinity sign. Use bobby pins to secure once you’re satisfied with the shape of your sophisticated damp bun.

Fishtail Bun

Another cute variation of buns and fishtail braids, the fishtail bun is definitely one of the best hairstyles for wet hair. Start with a high ponytail which you then braid using the standard fishtail technique. Don’t keep the braid very loose, since you’ll be curving it around to form a bun. Pin it and tuck the ends underneath the bun to complete the look.

What are the Different Types of Hair Extensions?

Types of Hair Extensions

There is a massive range of hair extensions available and it is often confusing. I mean – what is the difference between a microbeads hair extension, pre-bonded hair extensions, sewn in hair extensions or clip in hair extensions. See what I mean?

Deciding which one is right for you is a major pain, and one place to start without actually spending any money is to pop into your local hairdresser and see what they suggest. In the meantime I'm going to give you a basic guide as to the differences between all the different types in this article and hopefully that may help you decide which one is right for you. There are two main differences really – whether or not the hair is human i.e. natural, or synthetic; and how the extensions are attached.

There are other minor differences more concerned with the thickness of the hair and basically you be paying more for thicker hair than you will for thin hair. I don't really see why there is such a large difference in price between the different thicknesses, but there is and there's nothing you can do about that unfortunately. The fact is – if you have thick hair, you're going to be paying more than people who have thin hair.

Clip in Hair Extensions

These are probably the easiest type of hair extensions to attach, but they are perhaps not quite as comfortable as some of the other ways of attaching hair extensions. You can if you wish to attach these yourself, as shown in the video below, but usually it's a good idea to get a friend to help you out the first few times, in order to make sure that the hair is properly and evenly attached. Once you have a feel for it, they are easy to do on your own.

There is a massive range of clip in hair extensions available, but I like to recommend this particular manufacturer - TressMatch - because the quality of their hair is superb. Although you can buy cheaper hair extensions than these, personally I think you're better off spending a little more money and for two reasons – they are easier to attach and far more comfortable to wear than some of the cheaper hair which is far too light.

Sewn in Hair Extensions

Sew in or "weave," hair extensions are a little different to the clip in version in that you can leave them in for a long time. While clipping hair extensions tend to allow you to have a far thicker extension, the main difference is the fact that you can clip them in really quickly, whereas sewn in hair extensions take a lot longer to do, but can be left in for an extremely long time.

Basically you can leave them in until they start to drop because of your natural hair growth. Also – obviously you cannot sew them in yourself, so you are going to need to get a friend to do it, or go to a professional hairstylist. When you're deciding which ones to go for, I think the most important thing is whether or not you plan on leaving them in or not. Certainly the clip ons are much easier to use. And of course – less expensive – because you're not having to have somebody else do the work for you.

Watch this short video to see what I mean – clearly, you are not going to be able to do this yourself. So if you are planning on wearing short hair at work for example, and then putting hair extensions and to go to a nightclub you're far better off with the clip in versions.

Micro Bead Hair Extensions

Micro bead or micro link hair extensions are very similar to the weaving version, because you're basically weaving the natural hair and the extension through a tiny little bead – if you watch the video below you see what I mean and the good thing about this particular type of hair extension is it is really well-suited not only to matching your natural hair, but weaving in different strands of brightly colored hair as well.

This is another type that is not practical to do yourself, because you really need to carefully match the natural hair to the extension so that it looks natural and hangs properly. This is a somewhat skilled job, and if you are planning on doing this I suggest you find a friend to practice with, because it really does take a while to learn how to do this. Once you've got the hang of it – like anything else – practice makes perfect – it is not too hard. Or – go to a professional with experience attaching microbead or microlink hair extensions. There are plenty of salons that do hair extensions - just check with them first.

Synthetic Hair Extensions

I personally prefer human hair extensions, and the best ones are Remy Indian hair, but if you're looking for an interesting and different look, then synthetic hair extensions and wild colors can be great! Synthetic extensions are far less expensive than the natural human hair extensions – and I mean a lot less expensive!

The synthetic ones so it is wide and varied arranges the natural ones, and you can buy them to attach with beads, links or clips, much like the natural human hair versions. I don't like the feel of these personally, and the only time I do use synthetic ones is when I want some shock value for something really off the wall.

Hair Color-Ombre Hair Trend for Celebrities

Dip-dye, colored ends, gradient. Whatever it is called, the ombre hair look is in and it is in with a variety of different colors. Celebrities are sporting this hot look in huge numbers, and it is catching on with everyone.

What is ombre hair? The concept is simple. It is one hair color that is slowly faded into another hair color. The point of transition can be at any level on any length of hair. The key is a smooth gradient transition, though. Any color works well for this hairstyle.

For example, brown and caramel are popular, creating a trend that seems to go from dark brown to very light brown. Jessica Alba sports this look with a dark brown at the top. Anna Kendrick is doing it as well, in a slightly darker way. Mischa Barton is also a fan of this look, as is Kate Beckinsale.

If you are looking for something more dramatic, take the dark brown to a near-black and the light color to a golden color that is nearly blonde. This will give your hair a bright, very dramatic look that will frame your face and make your eyes pop. Lea Michele sports this look quite well, as does Drew Barrymore.

If you want something super chick, a great ombre look is to go from a dark golden color to a light sunny blonde. This will give you a sun-bleached look that is great either straight or curly.

If you are looking for something very subtle, a black top with a brown gradient at the very bottom of the hair will give just a hint of color that will almost go unnoticed, but give you just the touch you are looking for. Alexandra Burke sports this super-subtle look.

Even redheads can get in on the trend. A red-to-blonde ombre is a very popular and very sweet look. It gives redheads a little blast of color for a great chic, girly style. Nicola Roberts has recently become a fan of this look. Some are even taking their hair from a dark amber to a light red color.

What if you are looking for something much more dramatic? This comes in a pairing of any color with a bright non-natural color. Blonde or brown with pink is a very popular combination, but other celebrities are taking it a little further. Jamie King has taken hers from a light brown to a platinum and then a deep blue for a unique look.
